How Does an Oral Appliance Work?

Sleep oral appliances work by moving the lower jaw forward, which increases the size of the upper airway, thus reducing the air resistance that leads to sleep apnea and snoring.

Before having your custom appliance made, you will need to complete a sleep study to determine the severity of your snoring or apnea. Dr. Farahani works with several local sleep centers and sleep physicians to coordinate your care.  Oral appliances are often used as a substitute for CPAP or oral surgery to treat snoring or mild to moderate apnea. We can also make you a mouthpiece that may be used with your existing CPAP. They are comfortable to wear and many patients experience relief from snoring the first night they use it!
